When sport has given your life a target for years, the hardest part of what comes next is often not a lack of discipline. It is the loss of a clear target. The AB Plan starts from a different premise: your athletic career was not wasted time. It built assets you can use.
Start by separating the target from the identity
Being an athlete may have shaped your schedule, friendships, goals and sense of progress. But “athlete” was a role, not the full definition of who you are. Your next move becomes easier when you stop asking only, “What replaces sport?” and start asking, “What kind of life do I want to build now?”
Inventory what sport actually built
Look beyond medals, rankings and statistics. Sport may have developed discipline, resilience, coachability, leadership, communication, emotional control, adaptability, time management, a network, public-facing experience and the ability to perform under pressure. Those are real assets when you can connect them to outcomes other people value.
Choose a direction before you chase every opportunity
After sport it is easy to become busy without becoming directional. You can collect courses, jobs, ideas and side projects because they are available. A better approach is to choose one B worth testing for the next 90 days. That B could be a career, business, education path, creative project, lifestyle goal or combination.
Build a new scoreboard
Athletes rarely trained without a program or way to measure progress. Your next season needs the same clarity. Decide what you will do each week, what numbers or actions tell you that you are moving, and when you will review the plan. The goal is not to recreate sport. It is to reuse the process that made progress possible.
A simple next move
Do not try to solve your entire future today. Write down the strongest assets A built in you, choose one direction worth testing, and decide on one action that creates new information. A conversation, application, project, offer, course or meeting can move B out of your head and into the real world.
The AB Plan is built around one idea: A wasn't wasted. A built you. Now put it to work.
